Back To The Drawing Board

United's Reserves claimed their first draw of the season against a stubborn Yardley Gobion Reserves.
United went into the game on the back of two victories scoring four in each knowing another win could take them up to fourth in the table. Manager Ant Weight went with a familiar line up and a full bench to pick from too in what was sure to be an entertaining afternoon of North Bucks football.
United started the game well and chances were quickly created by the lively Jimi Jones on the left wing, however the resulting ball across the box was just a little too much for the approaching Jonny Ackroyd. It was clear to see that Yardley were not here just to make up the numbers with a couple of positive attacks into the United box, however the line stood firm and Yardley were denied.
United took the lead from a trademark long throw into the box allowing Ackroyd to volley the ball into the far corner leaving the keeper no chance. The ball may have taken a slight deflection on route to goal but take nothing away from the strike or the throw in.
The game began to level out and chance became few and far before Yardley turned up the pressure. Ball after ball started to flood the United box before Yardley pounced on a loose ball on the stroke of half time to level the game at 1-1 going in for the break.
The second half started the same as the first ended with chances few and far between. Tom Goodgame looked lively and the introduction of Fallon proved a challenge for the Yardley defence. However Yardley began to pile on the pressure forcing Bray in the United goal to make three brave saves at the feet of the advancing strikers to keep the score level.
The last minute of the game proved to be one of those what if moments... Good work by Ackroyd on the left side allowed him to creat space inside the box with two options of squaring the ball to Fallon or taking the shot himself... Ackroyd went for the shot which some say the bar is still rattling even after it has been put away in the store. Yardley then broke on the counter attack and as the ball entered the United box the full time whistle blew.
A point for United but one which felt like a loss after hitting the bar in the final seconds. Next up for United is a trip away to MK Wanderers.
